St
Joseph’s College Oval,
Indooroopilly
Saturday
and Sunday – November 15-16, 2003
Expo Launch
at Indooroopilly
Discussing plans for Farm and Food Expo 2003 at Indooroopilly are from left,
John Warlters, General Manager, Queensland Country Life, Jan Power,
Ross
Shannon,
Bluegum Beef,
Rod Davies, Suncorp and event organiser Jim Bowden.
Mr Shannon will be one
of the key speakers at the Expo explaining the Bluegum Beef marketing
strategy.

Queensland’s unique farm and food field days expo combines the multi-million-dollar industries of custom-grown, “designer-style” farm commodities, smaller scale and “leisure” farming and regional cuisine – and the machinery, equipment and services that supply these markets.
Staged at the tree-shaded St Joseph’s (Nudgee Junior) College Oval, Twigg Street, Indooroopilly, located just off the Western Freeway, the Farm and Food Expo will target an audience of more than 5000 commercial farming enterprises within a 90 minute drive plus the many thousands rural lifestyle and recreational landowners, food industry innovators and entrepreneurs across southeast Queensland.
The Expo will be presented in association with the highly successful Jan Power’s Farmers Markets that already attract daily attendances of more than 12,000 people.
Open-air Seminars
Through exhibits, food presentations and “opportunity” seminars, the Expo will focus on the new farming and marketing opportunities opening for small-scale primary producers in Southern Queensland.
The Farm and Food Expo seminars will not only promote opportunity crops and produce in a colourful and expressive showcase, they will seek to identify lucrative markets for sales and joint ventures in the region. Government departments, agricultural colleges and representatives of agribusiness and the restaurant/hotel trade will address these practical seminars to be staged on the College Oval in the centre of the exhibition area.
Bush Picnic
An Expo Bush Picnic will invite visitors over the two days to taste a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, herbs, nuts, meats, fish and dairy products during food presentation demonstrations. There will be wines and beers along with juices blended from the region’s fruits and vegetables and a special emphasis on “bush tucker”.
Static and working exhibits, fanning out from a central “Expo Educational Hub” on the College Oval will focus on new technology, equipment and services now transforming farm and food processing industries.
The Expo Hub will provide exhibits and information booths for Government departments, authorities and educational institutions which operate in the rural sector.
Commercial exhibits
Surrounding the educational marquee, commercial exhibits will be located all over the oval as companies “open shop” with displays of irrigation and pumping equipment, water tanks, solar systems, soil testing, fertilizers, seed propagation, farm sheds, 4WDs, ag bikes, agricultural tractors, slashers, mowers, silos, farm health equipment and rural management.
Farm and Food Expo visitors will be both educated and entertained. The weekend will feature a range of events and activities and displays of animals from goats and Alpacas to designer beef breeds.
Widespread promotion
The Farm and Food Expo has gained widespread support from government and rural industry. Marketing of the weekend event is under way and there will be extensive promotion in metropolitan, rural and regional media throughout the region.
An official supplement planned for Queensland Country Life on November 6th.
